This cylindrical keyring is an adorable replica of an Irish Post Box (mail box, to you guys). In the Republic of Ireland Post Boxes are painted Green. In Northern Ireland (and in other British territories like Scotland and Wales), they are painted Red.
Sometimes in Ireland, the only way you know you have crossed the border from the Republic into Northern Ireland, is when the post boxes change color.
On the bottom of the magnet the P 7 T for the Department of Post & Telegraphs (What looks like a number seven is the Irish ampersand).
For many of your ancestors, getting a letter sent from a post box like this, was the only way to keep in touch with family in Ireland.
