When I was growing up in Ireland my parents didn’t have a phone in the house, and didn’t want one. If I wanted to make a phone call, I had to get on my bike and cycle 1 ½ miles to the village to a phone box that looked just like this one!
As you probably guessed Telefón is Irish for Telephone. On the bottom of the magnet the P 7 T for the Department of Post & Telegraphs (What looks like a number seven is the Irish ampersand).
Nowadays phone boxes like these are disappearing. Get your glimpse of a bygone age in Ireland, before they are all gone!
