The Welsh Dragon (or more properly Griffin) has the head and wings of an eagle with talons on the front legs, and the body of a lion, and stands proudly on the Welsh Flag, with one claw raised in defiance. Here, the Dragon has a red gem for a body (on the flag the dragon is red) and is perched upon a sword.

Dating to to about 600 AD, we photographed this Ogham stone in Kilmalkedar Church, on the Dingle peninsular, in Co. Kerry. on our last trip to Ireland. The ogham carving reads "ẠṆM MẠỊLE-INBIR/ MACI BROCANN" - "Name of Máel-Inbher son of Broccán"
