This tasteful Celtic Cross is beautiful in its simplicity.
Celtic Crosses or High Crosses are found throughout the Irish countryside (and indeed in Scotland and Wales too). As jewelry they are a symbol of Celtic Christianity, and even just Celtic Heritage.
Legend has it that St. Patrick himself introduced the Celtic Cross while converting the Irish from Paganism to Christianity.
There could also be a practical reason for the circle through the cross as these High Crosses were very tall, and carved from stone, and the stone circle strengthened the arms, preventing breakage. An example of just how tall these Celtic or High Crosses could be is the Cross at Monasterboice, County Louth, which is 22 feet tall.
This graceful Sterling Silver Celtic Cross hangs 1” in length (1 ¼” including bail) from its 18” Sterling Silver chain. At just under ½” wide, and it is elegant without being showy.
We imported this Celtic Cross from Ireland and it is displayed in a tasteful presentation box.
