For all you dog lovers out there, a pewter cuff depicting Celtic Hounds in an openwork Zoomorphic knot. A Zoomorphic Knot is a Celtic Knot which incorporates an animal, usually because the animal has one or more admirable traits.
Hounds such as the Irish Wolfhound and Scottish Deerhound were highly prized for many reasons including their courage and loyalty.
In Irish legend one of our greatest heros is Cúchulainn. The name he was given upon his birth was Setanta, but the gained the name Cúchulainn as a young child. The story goes that as a child he killed the most ferocious guard dog in all the land, in self-defence. Culann was distressed as the hound was his only form of defence. Setanta offered to be his guard dog until a replacement could be reared, and took the name Cuchulainn (Hound of Culann).
