The Quaich is a shallow drinking or toasting cup with two handles and was originally made from wood, horn or leather. Quaich comes from the Gaelic Word “Cuach” which means shallow cup.

It has a long and interesting role in Scottish tradition from its role in helping to bring peace between warring clans, to being a part of a traditional Scottish Weddings, to its current role of being a Cup of Celebration.

The main design on this Quaich is a Celtic Cross.  A Celtic Cross is a cross with a circle through the arms.  The handles of this Quaich are adorned with Trinity Knots.  The Trinity Knot is the most well known of the Celtic Knots.  The modern interpretation of the Trinity is of the Blessed Trinity, however this was not the original meaning, as the Celts were Pagans.  The Celts also had a Triune God - The Mother Goddess (representing the three stages of womanhood - The Maiden, The Mother and the Crone or Wise Old Woman.)

This wee Quaich is a miniature version (ie not big enough to get a decent drink). By the way, we do have larger quaichs in stock!

Design features of this Pewter Quaich are:

  • Made in Scotland
  • Quaich measures approx. 3" including handles
  • Bowl Measures approx. 2"
  • Gift Boxed
