The pewter barrel is engraved with the words Scotch Whisky – The Water of Life. The word whisk(e)y comes from the Scottish Gaelic “Uisge Beatha” meaning “Water of Life”. We have the same expression (albeit spelt slightly differently) in Irish “Uisce Beatha”, because after all, we are all fellow Celts.
