Turf is a literal little piece of Ireland, dug up from the ground. It is also a little piece history, as turf has been used in Ireland for centuries.
When I was growing up in Ireland we burned turf to heat the house, and it is still used in rural Ireland today. We had a patch of bog where we “reared our own turf” ie cut, stacked and dried the turf and then brought it home to the shed, ready for use.
To my delight, you too can have your own piece of turf, thanks to the talents of a man in Co. Tyrone. He handcrafts beautiful products from the stuff we used to throw in the fire! This Turf Bless This House Horseshoe decoration is a great example of this.
There is a wedding tradition in Ireland where the bride was gifted a horseshoe for luck. If it was an actual horseshoe, this was hung up outside the front door, to have good luck come to the house. It was important to secure it upright (U shape) to hold the luck in, otherwise the good luck would fall out! And that is why this turf horseshoe is the correct way up, holding the carefully carved words “Bless This Home”, within it.
This would make a lovely little Wedding Gift or gift for a New Home.

"Evleen (spelling might be incorrect) was amazing. She being from Ireland, her husband from Scotland [sic ... Wales] are authentic in both Celtic apparel and the history of why & how authentic Celt apparel and accessories are worn.
Celt Wares was my best experience in customer service and the care of fitting me out in my new full Celtic apparel from kilt all the way to my hose."
What an amazing experience! Celt Wares, though several hours from my home, is "my" Celtic store (in person or online). Thank you again, Evleen!"
